WEST Perth has the chance to win a second WAFL premiership in three years to give the Falcons a 20th flag in the club's rich history when Sunday's grand final at Domain Stadium gets underway.

The two teams might have finished first and second on the ladder at the end of the home and away season, but have since had vastly contrasting runs into the grand final on Sunday.

Subiaco ended up four games clear as minor premiers with a 17-3 record earning the Lions the break in the first week of the finals before hosting West Perth in the second semi-final at Medibank Stadium.

The Falcons defeated arch rivals East Perth by twenty nine points on Sunday and in doing so earned their second Grand Final appearance in three years. This is a side that has consistently risen to the challenge throughout the season and Sunday was no exception as they overcame a twenty point quarter time deficit to run out comfortable victors. They now face the daunting, but not insurmountable challenge, of defeating Subiaco at Domain Stadium next week to claim their twentieth premiership.

The Royals had advantage of the breeze in the first quarter and they controlled the term. Aidan Lynch kicked the first score of the game, a behind, but East Perth kicked the first two majors to lead by twelve at the fourteen minute mark. The only Falcon goal for the term came shortly after and it was the first of six to key forward, Mike Lourey. He has been promising a real break out game and he picked a great game for it to occur. He marked thirty out and slotted it to reduce the margin. But from here the Royals once again had the better of it and they scored two more to take a twenty point lead into the first change. They led 4.4 (28) to 1.2 (8) and seemed to have the game under control.

JAY van Berlo won a Breckler Medal back in 2008, made his AFL debut in 2009 and became a WAFL premiership player in 2013, and now he has the chance to become a premiership captain for West Perth in Sunday's grand final against Subiaco.

On the heels of his older brother Nathan coming through West Perth before being drafted to Adelaide where he's gone on to play 202 AFL games and be captain, and setting the scene for his younger brother Mitch to come through who has now played 16 WAFL matches, Jay van Berlo continues to be one of the best and most consistent players in the competition.

The now 27-year-old won West Perth's fairest and best award in his first full season of WAFL football in 2008 and that led to him being picked up by Fremantle where he went on to play 32 AFL matches with the Dockers with his last being the western derby of Round 9, 2012.

WEST Perth delivered a memorable preliminary final win despite plenty seeming to be working against the Falcons with the only downside being two injuries that now leaves coach Bill Monaghan with interesting selection decisions to make ahead of Sunday's grand final against Subiaco.

Despite playing in its 11th consecutive match since a bye in Round 15 coming off a 55-point second semi-final loss to Subiaco and then falling three goals down at quarter-time in the preliminary final against East Perth at HBF Arena on Sunday, West Perth was able to deliver a tremendous last three quarters.

In front of a crowd of more than 8500 people and despite losing Matt Johnson (hamstring) and Laine Rasmussen (ankle) to injury by early in the third quarter, West Perth kicked 13 goals to six after quarter-time to beat the Royals by 29 points.

I WOULD put that win on Sunday in the preliminary final over East Perth in the top three that I've been part of in my career, along with the semi-final win over Claremont and the grand final back in 2013.

That was all under-pinned by the pressure that we were able to apply on East Perth and it was a collective effort that did that. We had some standouts but it was the pressure all across the ground that was the key to everything we were able to execute after quarter-time to end up winning the game.

The way the group has pushed through the last half of the season without a break, and the guys who have come into the team through injuries and rotations have done their job remarkably well. That's a testament to the depth of our squad.

West Perth won its way through to a second WAFL Grand Final in three years by winning Sunday's preliminary final by 29 points against East Perth at HBF Arena in front of a crowd of 8514 people.

Now the Falcons take on the Lions in the premiership decider for 2015 at Domain Stadium on Sunday.

The game will also be broadcast live on television by Channel 7, and by radio stations 720 ABC Perth, 91.3 SportFM, KIX Digital and 882 6PR.

AARON Black and Shane Nelson came first and second in last year's Sandover Medal count and there's every chance the West Perth premiership pair will be right among the 2015 top vote winners on Monday night.

Black became West Perth's first Sandover Medallist since Robbie West in 1993 when he stormed home to poll 47 votes last year to take home West Australian football's most prestigious individual award.

That saw him win by one vote ahead of his good mate and premiership teammate Nelson, who has won the last two Breckler Medals and should poll well again in this year's Sandover Medal.
