IN THEIR WORDS – JAY VAN BERLO SECOND SEMI-FINAL

Friday, September 11, 2015 - 2:10 AM by Jay van Berlo

SEPTEMBER is finally here and nothing beats finals footy. It's why we play the game. One of the greats in Brent LeCras used to always remind us "You play footy for two reasons - footy trips and premierships."

Although we knew he kept quiet on his third reason of "the hot chips from the food van."

All the hard work that the players and coaches have put in since November last year now counts for something and we have the chance to be a part of something special together. There is great enthusiasm amongst the group and the boys want to do what they can to make the most of the opportunity. However nothing will come easy.

Finals footy is decided over hundreds of contests throughout the game and we need to make sure as a team we work tirelessly to win the majority of those mini battles. The boys understand we play our best when we play as a unit and work hard for each other so this will be a key focus.

There are three formidable teams also in the hunt and only our very best will get us where we want to go, but we look forward to this challenge starting Sunday against Subi, and then either next week again in a prelim or looking ahead to a grand final.

On behalf of the players I'd like to thank our supporters for their support over the year and thank the club for giving us every opportunity to achieve success.

Over these last weeks of the season in the finals we will need everyone to get behind us so make sure you are there loud and proud, supporting the mighty red and blue.
