ROUND 8 PREVIEW V EAST PERTH

Friday, May 8, 2015 - 4:14 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth hosts East Perth in the first Perth derby of 2015 on Saturday with plenty at stake on Hog's Breath Café Ladies Day at HBF Arena.

West Perth and East Perth meet in the first Perth derby of 2015 at HBF Arena on Saturday with both clubs coming off a loss and both sitting on 3-3 records.

That means that there is plenty riding on the result with the winner to improve to a 4-3 record and to likely move up into the top five while the loser will slide to 3-4 and be behind the eight ball after eight rounds.

IN THEIR WORDS – LAINE RASMUSSEN ROUND 8

Thursday, May 7, 2015 - 11:11 PM - by Laine Rasmussen

ONE of the many privileges we have as players of the West Perth Football Club is the ability to represent our supporters in one of our state's greatest rivalries.

We’ve had some great battles with East Perth in the short time I’ve been playing for the club, and it takes no more than a passing word with one of our passionate members to see how much it means to them.

Every West Perth fan remembers their first derby, the one we just got over the line, or one of the grand finals we’ve played. Most of these memories are likely from before our young team were born (maybe not Gaudy or Keuns), but I have no doubt that everyone understands the significance of these unique games.

HOG'S BREATH CAFÉ LADIES DAY THIS SATURDAY

Thursday, May 7, 2015 - 2:57 PM - by Chris Pike

ONE of the most significant growth areas of the West Perth Football Club in recent years has been the involvement of women in all areas and that is celebrated this Saturday at HBF Arena for Hog's Breath Café Ladies Day when the Falcons take on East Perth.

It is the second consecutive year that West Perth has celebrated Ladies Day with the support of Hog's Breath Café who is the match-day partner.

The West Perth Football Club will also be going pink for the occasion in recognition of the Breast Cancer Network Australia so it would be great to see as many supporters as possible attending HBF Arena to wear something pink.

BROWNE PROUD TO REACH 100 BUT FAR FROM CONTENT

Thursday, May 7, 2015 - 11:20 AM - by Chris Pike

STEVEN Browne was proud to reach 100 games with West Perth and has already played in a WAFL premiership, in the AFL and State football but he is far from content that he has achieved everything his career has to offer.

Browne played in his 100th match in last Saturday's loss to Claremont at the Showground as he booked his name on the No. 7 locker West Perth Football Club and it's another notch on a terrific career already from the 26-year-old.

Browne began his career with West Perth in 2007 playing six league matches and impressing sufficiently to get drafted by Carlton and in three years with the Blues, he played 23 AFL matches before then returning to the Falcons in 2011.

KEY POSITION PLAYER INJURIES CREATES OPPORTUNITIES

Wednesday, May 6, 2015 - 2:17 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth's continued injury troubles with key position players has opened up opportunities for others and that has seen Sam Rotham and Drew Rohde already impress, and Tyler Keitel likely to receive his opportunity to make his league debut any time now.

West Perth lost back up ruckman Seva Martin to a knee reconstruction late last year and then the loss of talls to injuries has continued with Jordan Jones, Max Alexander and Shayne Zanetti still out indefinitely but Marcus Adams a chance to return soon if he gets some good news this week.

With those players absent, there has been increased opportunities for others in the West Perth team and that has seen usual half-forward Drew Rohde have to play above his height at times as a key defender this season, and to hold his own well.

FALCONS FALL SHORT OF TIGERS BUT COLTS GO TOP

Monday, May 4, 2015 - 3:44 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth couldn’t quite back up its stunning performance five days earlier losing to Claremont by 20 points at the Showground on Saturday but there was better news with the reserves and colts winning, and colts shooting to the top of the ladder.

West Perth was on a high coming off its 26-point comeback in the last few minutes against Swan Districts at HBF Arena on Monday, but the Tigers got the first goal of the game on Saturday and never surrendered their lead to end up winning 12.11 (83) to 8.15 (63).

The Falcons also had to watch on as former West Perth big men Mark Seaby, Mitch Andrews and Kepler Bradley all had an impact in the win for Claremont up against their old side.

IN THEIR WORDS – CHRIS KEUNEN ROUND 7

Friday, May 1, 2015 - 10:06 PM - by Chris Keunen

IT IS always a great feeling walking off the field after a win, but last week went up a notch after such a massive comeback. The crowd were certainly pumped and we as players were stoked to have pulled off such a great win.

I'm sure plenty of people had written us off when Swans went out to a 26-point lead, in fact my dad turned the radio off saying we were done. The self belief the playing group has was certainly seen by all who were listening and at the ground.

When we kicked the first goal in the come back we gained a little confidence and after the second, we were feeling pretty up. At this point it would have been hard for many sides to beat us. We were on a roll, although we did miss a few chances to put them way earlier.

ROUND 7 PREVIEW V CLAREMONT

Friday, May 1, 2015 - 5:43 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth will be looking to continue its momentum from a stunning comeback win over Swan Districts on Monday when the Falcons take on the winless Claremont at the Showground on Saturday.

West Perth looked dead and buried entering time-on in the last quarter on Monday against Swan Districts at HBF Arena, but were able to kick the last five goals of the game in the final 10 minutes to pull off the most remarkable of victories.

That improved the Falcons to a 3-2 record on the season and into fifth position on the ladder leading into Saturday's clash at the Showground against Claremont.

SIX FALCONS NAMED IN WAFL STATE SQUAD

Friday, May 1, 2015 - 12:38 PM - by Chris Pike

SIX West Perth players have been named in the initial WAFL State squad for the game on Saturday May 23 against South Australia at Lathlain Park.

The initial squad of 36 players has been announced and that includes six West Perth premiership players from 2013 – Aaron Black, Laine Rasmussen, Chris Keunen, Jay van Berlo, Shane Nelson and Andrew Strijk.

It is tremendous reward for those six players who have continued their tremendous form to start the 2015 WAFL season, and there are some other Falcons who could consider themselves unlucky but can still press their claims for a place in the squad between now and May 23.
