WEST Perth has strengthened its football department with the appointment of former Perth fairest and best winner Chad Harding as the new football operations co-ordinator.

Harding will work closely with Ward Harris and Casey Haw to ensure that all the coaches and players at the Falcons are in the best hands possible.

Harding comes into the role with it being his first official involvement in football since his playing career.

That began in the amateurs with Scarborough where he won premierships as an 18 and 19-year-old before he joined Perth. He went on to play 86 games with the Demons and won the fairest and best award in 2003 on the back of playing in two state games before life took him to Melbourne.

WEST Perth wasn't too far off the top WAFL teams in the 2016 season and the Falcons have taken some encouraging steps towards being a premiership contender once again in 2017 with promising signings.

The Falcons made a slow start to the 2016 season losing four of the first five games but went on to win 12 of the next 15 to qualify for the finals in third position before losing to South Fremantle and Peel Thunder.

Having played in two of the previous three grand finals and then being third at the end of the home and away season, the Falcons won't need to improve much to be a genuine contender again in 2017 with the majority of the core playing group set to return.

New Board announced and Life Members inducted at AGM

Thursday, December 15, 2016 - 4:28 PM

Members at the 2016 AGM endorsed the Life Membership nominations of two past greats for meritorious service to our club.

Dion Fleay, nominated by Dr Greg Smith, drove seven hours from Kalgoorlie to be at the meeting – this level of dedication reminiscent of that he showed to earn himself three Breckler Medals during his 148 WAFL League and three State game career.

Former player and coach Dennis Cometti, nominated by Colin Rockman, was also present for his induction. Recounting the days of the 1960’s as a player, then into the 1980’s as a coach, the most famous voice in football had guests’ undivided attention as he accepted the honour bestowed on him.

Acknowledged at the Breckler Medal in October, Luke Tedesco was formally presented with his Life Membership having achieved 150 games with the Club he holds so dearly since making his League debut in 2007. Close friend and former Captain, Jason Salecic, spoke highly of Luke as a quality competitor on field, and equally good person off field.

Both Dion and Dennis will be formally presented with their Life Membership at a pre-match luncheon in 2017.
