ROUND 12 PREVIEW V PERTH

Saturday, June 23, 2018 - 8:33 AM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth might have dominated Perth for a long time including winning 14 straight, but the Falcons can expect a much sterner challenge from the Demons this Saturday at Joondalup Arena.

It will be a full day of action as West Perth returns to Joondalup Arena in Round 12 of the WAFL as well with the colts clash beginning proceedings at 9am before the reserves contest at 11.30am and then the league match begins at 2.15pm.

That will be followed a league contest in the Mundella WA Women's Football League, with West Perth hosting Subiaco from 5pm at Joondalup Arena.

MONAGHAN PASSIONATE AS EVER FOR FALCONS SUCCESS

Saturday, June 23, 2018 - 7:19 AM - by Chris Pike

EVERY game that Bill Monaghan coaches at West Perth, he extends his tenure as the club's longest-serving coach and every win he oversees grows his legacy as coaching the Falcons to the most wins, but his focus and passion remains as strong as ever.

On the back of his 204-game playing career at both Subiaco and Peel Thunder, Monaghan moved into a successful coaching stint with the Lions under Peter German as his assistant and then premiership-winning reserves coach.

Monaghan then had to undergo some disappointments by being overlooked for senior coaching positions and by the time he put his hand up to coach West Perth in 2009 after Todd Curley stood down upon accepting a role with Fremantle, he didn’t expect much.

FALCONS VETERANS SHINE IN THRILLING WIN OVER TIGERS

Tuesday, June 19, 2018 - 1:31 PM - by Chris Pike
ANDREW Strijk has now kicked 13 goals in his past two WAFL games inspiring West Perth to another thrilling win over Claremont on Saturday but it took a fingertip effort from fellow veteran Chris Keunen to deny the Tigers the winning goal at Claremont Oval.

The recent history between the two clubs was remarkable already entering Saturday's clash at Claremont Oval and it certainly continued.

West Perth had won six of the previous seven meetings with Claremont but four of those had only been by a combined 13 points and ever since the Tigers beat the Falcons by 119 points in Round 18, 2012, every game between the two teams had been decided by 10.6 points. Read More ...

ROUND 11 PREVIEW V CLAREMONT

Saturday, June 16, 2018 - 8:20 AM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth heads to Claremont Oval for the first time in 2018 looking to continue its good recent run against Claremont and to further close in on second position on the WAFL ladder.

The Tigers and Falcons have built quite the strong rivalry in recent years where tempers have often boiled over and tight finishes have become the expected, and there's little reason not to expect something similar this Saturday at Claremont Oval.

There's plenty at stake for both clubs too with Claremont trying to break into the top five and West Perth attempting to further consolidate their position and close in further on South Fremantle's second spot.

FALCONS JUST FALL SHORT AGAINST THUNDER

Tuesday, June 12, 2018 - 4:50 PM - by Chris Pike
A CAREER-best five goals form former skipper Jay van Berlo and kicking the game's last four goals wasn’t quite enough for West Perth against Peel Thunder at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday.

Coming off winning the past two WAFL premierships, Peel had struggled to date in the 2018 season but now coming off a hard fought win against Claremont last week, they backed it up with another tight win against West Perth in Mandurah on Saturday.

The game went the way of the strong breeze with Peel kicking four goals to one to lead by 21 points at quarter-time before West Perth hit back with four goals to one in the second to trail by just two points at the main break. Read More ...

WEST Perth heads south to take on the two-time reigning premiers Peel Thunder for the first time in 2018 on Saturday looking for a third consecutive win and to keep the pressure on for second spot.

It shapes as a fascinating contest in Mandurah on Saturday with Peel trying to close in on a top five position by winning consecutive games for the first time in 2018 while West Perth makes the journey to Bendigo Bank Stadium looking to make it three consecutive wins itself.

The game will also be the first meeting between Peel and West Perth in 2018 with the Thunder winning their last meeting in Round 16 last year at Joondalup Arena by five goals.

MONAGHAN REACHES ANOTHER MILESTONE AS WEST PERTH COACH

Monday, June 4, 2018 - 10:27 AM - by Chris Pike

HE is already West Perth's longest-ever serving coach and now Bill Monaghan reaches another significant milestone in Monday's WA Day Derby becoming the first Falcons boss to ever get to 200 matches.

It's remarkable to now consider that Monaghan did a long coaching apprenticeship and there was a time when he thought he might not even get a chance to be a WAFL senior coach going back a little over a decade.

Following 204-game playing career at both Subiaco and Peel Thunder, Monaghan stepped into a coaching role back with the Lions leading the reserves to great success and being part of the league triumphs too under Peter German.

IN THEIR WORDS – BLAKE WILHELM WA DAY COLUMN

Sunday, June 3, 2018 - 10:43 AM - by Blake Wilhelm

THE first eight rounds of the season have flown by and we find ourselves sitting with a 4-3 record after some close losses to top two teams South and Subi which could have gone either way. Plenty has happened both on and off the field so far in 2018 and it's great to see a few old heads coming back down to the club.

One of those old heads is none other than Corey 'Don't forget your RPE' Green. Greeny comes back to head up our strength and conditioning program this year, and boy does he love it. You should have seen the pure joy on his face from watching us suffer through pre-season. When I say suffer, I'm not just referring to the running, but the Spotify playlist made up of non-stop, back to back, encore versions of Post Malone – it wasn't fun.

There may be some method to the madness, though, as the boys are fitter than ever and it's showing on the field. One thing I can't get on board with is his diet though. He has two jars of peanut butter by the spoonful a day. That's definitely not something I can get around.
