MEDIA RELEASE: PERTH STADIUM MANAGEMENT SERVICES FOR DOMAIN STADIUM & WACA GROUND
WAFC MEDIA STATEMENT
The West Australian Football Commission looks forward to reading the report released today by the West Australian Cricket Association and obtaining a fuller understanding of its long-term plans for both the WACA Ground and major cricket events in Western Australia.
Football and cricket have been working collaboratively on a range of issues during the past year or so, particularly with regard to Perth Stadium Management providing common stadium management services for both Domain Stadium and the WACA Ground. At this point in time the WAFC has made no decisions regarding the location of its administration facilities once AFL games cease at Domain Stadium in 2018, but will continue to examine and discuss options, including the WACA Ground.
Any decision to relocate the WAFC’s administration and other facilities is an important element in establishing a new financial model for football post-2018 after the sport loses its primary revenue source from AFL games at Domain Stadium. Discussions continue with the State Government on a range of points relating to the new financial model required to safeguard the future development of football in WA.
As a result of some media comments, the WAFC also wishes to clarify that there is no agreement at the current time for WAFL games or finals to be played at the WACA Ground.
