EAGLES, FALCONS TEAM UP FOR HARMONY DAY THIS WEEKEND

Wednesday, March 18, 2015 - 11:30 AM

THE West Coast Eagles will be joining the West Perth Football Club as they fly through the northern suburbs in celebration of 15 years of Harmony Day on Saturday, March 21.

Harmony Day aims to promote cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home, from the traditional owners of this land, to those who have come from many countries around the world.

The clubs’ first landing place will be at St Mark’s Anglican Community School Fete which runs from 10am to 3pm in Hillarys.

This highly-anticipated community event occurs every two years and in 2015 the school will create awareness about Harmony Day through a number of different initiatives, including activities for the kids to enjoy and multicultural-themed food stalls.

The fete will host the usual popular rides, activities and stalls, including trash and treasure, cakes and preserves, silent auctions, raffles, and various entertainment, including dance groups, martial arts demonstration, school band and more.

This promises to be a fun-filled day for all ages and the West Coast Eagles will be joining in the action between 1pm and 3pm, during which time there will be a flying visit from Rick the Rock Eagle, and a couple of Falcons players (1pm-2pm) and West Coast Eagles players (2pm-3pm)*.

After enjoying fete festivities, join us at our next destination in aid of Harmony Day: a pop-up footy centre at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City outside Myer between 3pm and 5pm. Football fans and shoppers alike will be encouraged to test their skills with a handball target and kicking cube, as well as have the opportunity to meet the club mascots, and more Falcons players (3pm-4pm) and West Coast Eagles players (4pm-5pm).

During the day, the clubs will be running a special Harmony Day competition at both locations, offering participants the chance to test their footy skills and WIN PRIZES including a $100 Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City voucher, thanks to retail managers Lend Lease.

This event will showcase the partnership being developed by West Coast and West Perth, which aims to promote social cohesion in a multicultural community, drive growth in football participation and attract new fans to the game by introducing new migrants to Australian football.

The presence of West Coast and West Perth at these two events is timely with the 2015 AFL and WAFL seasons kicking off in the coming weeks. Round one will see the Falcons face South Fremantle on Friday, March 20 at Fremantle Oval, while the West Coast Eagles will take on the Dockers in the NAB Challenge at Domain Stadium on Sunday, March 22.
