Friday 12th August saw Western Australia’s top AFL School Ambassadors honoured in a night of ‘magic’ at Paterson’s Stadium. The awards recognised outstanding work throughout the 2011 School year as well as honouring all School Competition winners.
The awards were split into 5 categories and overall Ambassador of the Year. These categories were: Outstanding Multicultural/ Indigenous Remote, Outstanding Female, Outstanding First Year, Outstanding High School and Outstanding Primary School with the major award being presented on the night to AFL School Ambassador of the Year.
The West Perth Football District were lucky enough to have 3 finalists invited to attend the awards on the night to recognise the hard work both they and their co- ambassadors put in throughout the year. Justin Burt (Wanneroo SHS) and Wayne Jaggard (Woodvale SHS) were both finalists in the Outstanding High Schools category and Mel Posener (Kinross College) represented the District in the Outstanding Female category.
For the third year running, Justin Burt was recognised for his hard work and dedication to both School and District based competitions, taking out the Outstanding High Schools category. Justin is an outstanding ambassador for football who motivates his students to achieve. Not only does he coach school football teams, previously he has written an Australian Football Course for years 8 and 9, Justin has now developed a year 10 course, allowing students to further advance their skill development and coaching ability. He has established Senior School Pathways by offering Australian football focused PE Studies- 1 A/B, 1 C/D, 2 A/B or certificate 1 or 2 in Sport and Recreation. Justin is an asset to have within the District and we thank him for his efforts in promoting AFL on a daily basis.
